Colchester Zoological Society is home to over 150 beautiful, unusual & rare species of the animal kingdom, set in 60 acres of parkland and lakes!
As you journey around the Zoo, you’ll find there’s lots to explore with our range of activities available!
Get closer to our gentle giants and have the opportunity to hand feed our towering giraffes. Included in standard admission, visitors can embark on a journey as they come face to face with a herd of static and animatronic dinosaurs, including a Brachiosaurus that stands just under 5 metres tall.
Enjoy a tropical journey from 10:30am through the exotic aviary at Australian Rainbows, with the chance to get up close with these colourful birds whilst feeding them
Start your day with a delicious breakfast, take a break from exploring with a coffee and snack, or pause for lunch at one of our many food and drink outlets available throughout the zoo!

Group Giraffe Feed: Get closer to our gentle giants and have the opportunity to hand feed our towering giraffes!
Dinosaur Realm: Included in standard admission, visitors can embark on a journey as they come face to face with a herd of static and animatronic dinosaurs, including a Brachiosaurus that stands just under 5 metres tall.
Jungle Tumble: Release your wild side at our indoor soft play area, Jungle Tumble! Open daily from 10:30am. Simply book a FREE pre-bookable slot for your child to enjoy this play area.
Hand Feed Lorikeets: Enjoy a tropical journey from 10:30am through the exotic aviary at Australian Rainbows, with the chance to get up close with these colourful birds whilst feeding them a pot of nectar for a small charge.
Crazy Sand: Create your own colourful sand bottles and pendants at Crazy Sand which is located next to Meerkat Hangout. All items are available whilst stocks last.
Discovery Den: Get hands on at our interactive sand table where you can build different animal habitats or watch as your creations come to life on the Draw Alive wall. PLUS get up close to our creepy crawlies!
Outdoor Play Areas: As you walk around the zoo you will come across plenty of different outdoor adventure play areas perfect for the kids to let off some steam, with benches, toilet facilities and snack shops also close by each area.
Lost Madagascar Road Train: The Lost Madagascar Express will take visitors across countries and continents to spot many exciting species along the way, before disembarking at the Lost Madagascar Lemur Walkthrough, where the adventure will really begin.
Face Painting Station: Transform into your favourite species at our Face Painting Station! Have your face painted as a growling leopard or maybe a cheeky chimpanzee for a small charge!
Animals & Habitats: Discover over 150 species, including some of the rarest animals on the planet. Some of our habitats may contain more than one species, so be sure to look out for each animal!

Facilities

You are welcome to park in the Zoo’s large car park free of charge. Cars are parked in the Colchester Zoological Society (CZS) car park at their owners own risk and CZS cannot be held responsible for loss or damage to vehicles, their contents or persons.
All bicycles, scooters, children’s cars, skate boards and rollerblades are not permitted within Colchester Zoological Society (CZS) as this can put yourself and other visitors in danger.
You can I hire a mobility Scooter, wheelchair or stroller.
We have a number of lockers available to rent located just inside the Zoo grounds, close to the main entrance.
Medium Lockers: £3 for 4 hours or £5 for 8 hours
Large Lockers: £6 for 4 hours or £10 for 8 hours
Colchester Zoological Society now has free wifi access throughout the park, for the password, please speak to a member of staff.
There are many picnic areas available around the Zoo which visitors are welcome to use on a first-come first-served basis.

Colchester zoo are open every day from 9:30am except Christmas Day and closing times vary according to season.
Please note that the Zoo may close up to 30 minutes prior to the closing time stated depending on level of trade. Last admission to the zoo grounds is 1 hour prior to close.

How to get here by Car: Colchester Zoological Society (CZS) is located just south of Colchester. Take the A1124 exit (Junction 26) off the main A12 following the brown elephant signs and using the new Stanway Western Bypass. CZS is situated on Maldon Road in Stanway.
Train: Colchester North Train Station can be reached by Liverpool Street services from London within in an hour or is easily reached along the Lowestoft or Norwich networks to Ipswich and then on to Colchester. CZS is just 10 minutes by taxi or can be reached by bus.
Bus: All bus services to Colchester Bus Station regularly connect with the number 75 for Maldon or Tiptree and Colchester Zoological Society (CZS).
